I love the phrase ‘mini-moon’.

It’s fun to say… and even more fun to be on.

For our mini-moon, we wanted to do something chilled,
low effort and relaxed, without having to travel far.

Somewhere we could sleep, eat, drink and be happy.

So to start our mini-moon, we rented an airstream
from Vintage Vacations on the Isle of Wight.

I can’t tell you how much we loved our wee caravan.
It was just so perfect. A perfect start to married life.

So while we’re waiting on wedding pics,
here’s some snaps from our mini-moon part 1…

Oh to have my own little airstream!

For today’s Friday I’m in love, I thought I’d share
some brilliant projects/tutorials I’ve come across recently.

How gorgeous is this skirt? The whole tutorial is here. I so want to try this!

Amazingly pretty hair… and it looks pretty easy too.

Mine isn’t this long but I used to do something similar with
two little buns a few years ago so I think it should still work.

I currently dislike our doormat. (If you can dislike such things!)
So I’m thinking this simple project could be the answer.
Some colourful paint and a ‘hello’ perhaps?

I wanted to red and white painted stripes in our hall…
This painted floor makes me wish I had. Brilliant isn’t it?

Love this lace lamp by Dos Family.

So delicate and pretty… must cast amazing shadows too.

Looks simple-ish… might have to start collecting some doilies first!

And adorable sequin shoe clips.

Shoe clips are a current obsession of mine
as I’m trying to find the perfect ones for my wedding.

Ok, there isn’t a tutorial for these amazing chairs…
but I’ve been meaning to share this for ages…

I would love to have these in my hall!

P.S. Apologies that I’ve been a somewhat absent blogger.
Life and stress have been taking over.

On the plus side, I’m thankful to say that
I’m off to meet my little niece Grace tomorrow.

She’s a tiny mite and has arrived very early– after giving everyone
a bit of a scare for the last month – but so far everything’s looking good.

I have a new obsession. Well, an old obsession reborn.

You see, I’ve got a bit of a thing for typewriters
but it’s not exactly a new fixation…

Yes, this is baby me.

(The dashing young fella is my Dad.)

This picture alone probably tells you that
I was going to grow up to be a writer.

And that I would develop a lifelong fixation with yellow.

So I’ve been searching for a pretty typewriter…

You know, just to carry about and stuff…

(Um, maybe not.)

To be honest, I’ll probably just plonk it next to some of my old globes…

Or just use it for doing crafty stuff…

Or perhaps as a message board?

It took me a minute to realise this must be in a bookshop.
I thought it was a more general offer of help at first!

A mustardy, yellow one would be ideal…

But this old advert is right… having a pink typewriter
might actually induce to me do some real typing!

I have never wanted to live in a house. I like flats.
I like being up high (I think that’s my inner cat.)

But every time I see a set of beautifully painted stairs,
it really makes me wish we had some. (Yes I am strange!)

Always loved these stairs decorated by Helen from the Living Etc forum.
(I actually bought a version of this Orla Kiely wallpaper for our bedroom.)

Love the different patterns… oh yes, and they’re yellow!

Simpler than the first ‘wordy’ one… I think the steps
should also say ‘come on down’ for the way back down.

Love this… I can’t imagine how long it would take to paint!

Perhaps I should paint my building’s communal stairs instead?
Just start graduating the colour from my yellow door down!

So Friday I’m in love with colour.

I know, I know, it’s not exactly a big surprise is it?

But I’m cheating here. I’ve been a bit short on time recently.

Ok, when I say a bit, I kind of mean I have none.

But I wrote the following post last October and then never published it.

I do that a lot more than I should.

Anyway, it might be a cheat but it’s a colourful cheat so I’m sure you’ll forgive me.

Once upon I lived in a monochrome flat.

The front door was black.
The walls painted stark white.
The furniture was a mixture of both.

And I myself lived in black, looking somewhat like a modern
Snow White with my near black hair and too pale skin.

I had an austere outlook on the world and
you could see it, even in my decorating.

Today, when I come home and see our bright yellow door,
it’s a reminder that I of how far I’ve come from those days.

That I remembered that life is for living, for laughing, for loving.

It’s too short and precious not to at least try to be happy.

And colour makes me happy.

Especially yellow.

But you all knew that already.

(love this sign!)

(think this might be the inspiration behind why I organise my books by colour.
the writer in me hates it but the budding interior designer in me loves it.)

(I love this kitchen. I look at this so many times when we were doing ours
but came to the conclusion by the time you add our level of general mess
to it, it would just induce headaches.)

(my original choice for our bedroom. the other half did not like it.
it’s very rare for him not to like something so I had to listen!)

(I still still still want a hang-it-all.
I also wish my childhood bedroom had been this cool.)

(I love this lamp – both as a pop of colour and with lots of other yellow loveliness.)

And this… this is just how yellow my front door is!

You can imagine what the neighbours said when we were
painting it. (Mainly ‘um, is it going to stay that colour?’)

(Excuse the random pipeness, I meant to take a more

… when you’re a fox owl cat.

Hope you’re all staying warm wherever you are?

It’s been freezing this week – which explains why our fox owl cat
has been lying on top of the living room radiator every night.

(Her expression here is one of worry as she thinks
I’m about to give her a row for being where she is.)

This weekend we’re going into full-on Christmas mode,
dressing the tree and putting up our decorations.

I’m expecting a few feline frolics like this to occur… so hopefully I’ll get to take
some shots for an Xmasy post before the  fox owl cat and the grey ninja cat
remember just how much they like taking baubles off the tree.

On Wednesday I wore the yellow Orla Kiely cardigan my sis got me for my birthday.

I felt like a little ray of sunshine in a cold, grey world.

Then on the same day I spotted this yellow duffle coat.

Instant coat envy!

And how adorable is Taza’s coat?

Or how about this wee beauty?

Now I really really really want a yellow coat.

The only condition is that it must be super cozy.

(And super affordable too.)

(And flattering… ok that was more than one condition.)

A quick peek in the shops lots of grey, black and khaki green.

No yellow to be seen!

Darn.

Anyone else cursed with coat envy?

I absolutely adore this print by Dolce Press. It’s just so sweet and clever.

During the day, the print tells you to ‘have a good morning’.

But that’s only the top half of the print… the second half a secret message for you too.

Can you guess what it is?

Yup, at night, when the lights go out, the print tells you to ‘have a good night’. Genius!

They’ve sold out their first run but I’m hoping they’ll do more
so I can buy one for our bedroom. Too cute not to!
